Our maxillofacial and oral surgeons treat conditions of the mouth, teeth, jaws and face, from wisdom teeth to dental implants. Procedures can be done under local anaesthetic, sedation or general anaesthetic in theatre.
Removing impacted wisdom teeth Wisdom teeth that are stuck, growing at an angle or causing pain and infection are removed. All four can often be removed in one visit.
Removing difficult teeth Teeth that are broken, badly decayed or hard to reach are removed surgically.
Replacing missing teeth A small titanium post is placed in the jawbone to act as a new tooth root. A crown, bridge or denture is attached once it has healed.
Rebuilding the jawbone Bone is added where the jaw is too thin, usually to prepare for dental implants.
Adding bone to the upper jaw Bone is added to the upper back jaw, below the sinuses, so that implants can be placed securely.
Treating infection at the root tip The tip of a tooth root and the infected tissue around it are removed, and the root end is sealed.
Removing cysts in the jaw or mouth Fluid-filled sacs in the jawbone or soft tissue of the mouth are removed.
Testing a sore or growth in the mouth A small piece of an unusual area in the mouth is removed and sent to a laboratory for testing.
Helping stuck teeth come through A tooth that is stuck in the gum or bone is uncovered, and a small attachment is added so braces can guide it into place.
Treating receding gums Tissue, usually taken from the roof of the mouth, is used to cover exposed tooth roots and strengthen the gums.
Releasing a tight lip or tongue tie A tight band of tissue under the tongue or upper lip is released to improve movement.
