Our ENT surgeons treat problems with the ears, nose, sinuses and throat that affect hearing, breathing, sleep and swallowing. Most of these procedures are done as day surgery, so you can usually go home the same day.
Removal of the tonsils Surgery to remove the tonsils, the two glands at the back of the throat. It is usually recommended for repeated tonsil infections, or when large tonsils affect breathing or sleep.
Removal of the adenoids Removes the adenoids, small glands at the back of the nose. Enlarged adenoids can block the nose, cause snoring and lead to repeated ear infections, especially in children.
Tonsils and adenoids removed together The tonsils and adenoids are removed in one operation, so only one anaesthetic and one recovery are needed.
Small tubes to drain the ears A tiny opening is made in the eardrum to drain trapped fluid, and a small tube (grommet) is placed to let air into the middle ear. Often used for children with repeated ear infections or "glue ear".
Straightening the inside of the nose Corrects a bent septum, the wall that divides the two sides of the nose, so that air can flow more freely and breathing is easier.
Opening up a blocked nose Reduces the size of swollen turbinates, the structures inside the nose that warm and filter air, to relieve a constantly blocked nose.
Sinus surgery through the nose A thin camera is passed through the nostrils to open blocked sinuses so they can drain properly. There are no cuts on the face.
Rinsing the sinuses The sinuses are flushed out under anaesthetic to clear a stubborn infection.
Setting a broken nose The broken bones of the nose are moved back into place to restore its shape and help breathing.
Eardrum repair Repairs a hole in the eardrum and, if needed, the tiny bones behind it. This can improve hearing and help prevent ear infections.
Freeing the tongue The tight band of tissue under the tongue is released so the tongue can move freely, which can help with feeding and speech.
Treatment for repeated nosebleeds Seals the small blood vessels inside the nose that keep causing nosebleeds.
