General Surgery

Our general surgeons treat a wide range of common conditions, from hernias and haemorrhoids to lumps and bumps on the skin. These procedures are done as day surgery, so you can recover in the comfort of your own home.

Groin hernia repair
Repairs a weak spot in the groin where tissue or bowel pushes through and causes a bulge or discomfort. Often done as keyhole surgery.

Belly button hernia repair
Closes a weak spot at or near the belly button where tissue pushes through.

Removing lumps under the skin
Removes soft fatty lumps (lipomas) or cysts under the skin. The tissue is usually sent for testing.

Removing moles or skin growths
A mole or skin growth is cut out and the area is stitched closed. The tissue can be checked by a laboratory.

Removing a breast lump for testing
A lump in the breast is removed so that it can be examined by a pathologist.

Testing a swollen gland
A swollen lymph gland, or part of it, is removed and tested to find the cause.

Removing piles
Surgery to remove large or painful haemorrhoids (piles) that have not improved with other treatment.

Healing a painful tear
Treats a small, painful tear in the lining of the back passage, often by gently relaxing the surrounding muscle.

Treating a tunnel near the back passage
Repairs an abnormal tunnel between the inside of the back passage and the skin nearby, which often causes discharge and repeated infection.

Draining an infected swelling
A painful, pus-filled swelling is opened and drained to clear the infection.

Treating an ingrown toenail
Removes the edge of a toenail that has grown into the skin, causing pain, redness and swelling.

Treating swollen leg veins
Treats enlarged, twisted veins in the legs. Your surgeon will assess your veins first to choose the best method.
