Our gynaecologists provide day procedures to investigate and treat conditions of the womb, cervix, ovaries and fallopian tubes. Many are minimally invasive (keyhole or camera procedures), which means less pain and a quicker recovery.
Looking inside the womb A thin camera is passed through the vagina and cervix to look inside the womb. It helps find the cause of problems like abnormal bleeding, and small problems can often be treated at the same time.
Removing polyps from the womb Small growths (polyps) on the lining of the womb are removed using a hysteroscope. No cuts on the tummy are needed.
Sampling the womb lining The cervix is gently opened and tissue is taken from the lining of the womb to find the cause of abnormal bleeding or to treat it.
Care after a miscarriage Removes any pregnancy tissue that remains in the womb after a miscarriage, to prevent bleeding and infection.
Treating abnormal cells on the cervix A small area of abnormal cells is removed from the cervix, usually after an abnormal Pap smear. The tissue is sent to a laboratory for testing.
Treatment for heavy periods The lining of the womb is treated to reduce or stop heavy menstrual bleeding. It is suitable only for women who do not plan to have children in future.
Keyhole look inside the pelvis A small camera is passed through a tiny cut near the belly button to check the womb, ovaries and fallopian tubes. Often used to investigate pelvic pain, endometriosis or difficulty falling pregnant.
Removing a cyst from the ovary Keyhole surgery to remove a cyst from the ovary, keeping the healthy part of the ovary wherever possible.
Permanent contraception The fallopian tubes are closed through keyhole surgery so that pregnancy can no longer happen. This should be considered permanent.
Removing scar tissue Bands of scar tissue inside the pelvis, which can cause pain or affect fertility, are released through keyhole surgery.
Treating a painful lump near the vagina A swollen or infected gland near the opening of the vagina is drained to relieve pain and swelling.
Long-term contraception A small contraceptive device is placed inside the womb. Some patients prefer to have this done under sedation.
Wart treatment Warts in the genital area are removed using heat (cautery) or other methods.
